Programs Runt Ride™ How young do you start students in lessons? That depends on their age and how ambitious they are. For ages 2 through 6, Natural Beginnings offers the Runt Ride™ program, in which the child gets to pet the horse, lead it around, and gets boosted up for a short ride, all in a half hour setting. This is for children who don’t want to control the horse yet, but would like to connect with a large, gentle animal. Runt Rides™ are available upon appointment or on a weekly basis. Junior Rider When children are ready to learn to ride on their own, they join the Junior Rider Program. In that, they will learn all of the basics of horse care and riding, while still keeping it fun. Games are included. Students learn to walk, trot, and canter. They learn to stop and steer, ride in a two-point position, learn to post the trot, and sit the canter. Each student has a chance to earn “ribbons” as they progress through the program. In the program, each student is given a booklet (which is kept at the barn), and in that booklet there are about 6 pages which have a list of tasks for the student to accomplish. As the student achieves these goals, the tasks are marked off by the instructor. When the entire page of tasks is marked off, a ribbon request is sent in, and the student gets their ribbon in the near future. The typical Junior Rider is between the ages of 6 and 13. Lessons are typically offered weekly. All lessons are private. Senior Rider After the Junior Rider Program, students ages roughly 13 and up (or those who have completed the Junior Rider Program) have the option of moving on into the Senior Rider Program. In that, they again have a chance to earn ribbons. However, they also have a chance to earn certificates. In the Senior program, a more in-depth introduction to the horse hobby and industry is given. There are 2 booklets for the SR program; one which focuses on riding, and another that focuses on other aspects such as safety, basic care, and different aspects of the horse industry. This part of the AARS™ is designed to create an independent amateur rider. Lessons are typically offered weekly. All lessons are private. A Day With Horses™ Also offered is the Day With Horses™ program. This is ideal group activity for girl scouts, church groups, or a fun family experience. Vacationing families are welcome. This program lasts for approximately 3 hours, and is designed for 2 or more people. It includes leading and brushing a horse, riding bareback, and riding with either an english or a western saddle. Some basics in riding covered are stopping and steering, with some possible trotting on a lunge line towards the end. Each participant receives a Day With Horses™ activity booklet. Sessions must be scheduled in advance. Pepperoni Ponies Fan Club® Come join the Pepperoni Ponies Fan Club!
